Japan Airlines in merger talks
JAPAN AIRLINES (JAL) is reported to be in merger talks with Japan Air System, a regional carrier, in a tie-up that would create the world’s sixth biggest airline. The union would be the first realignment in the Japanese airline industry in 30 years and give the combined company 48 per cent of the domestic Japanese market. JAL is the leading international carrier, but has only 25 per cent of the domestic market — half that of All Nippon Airways (ANA). Japan Air System serves the country’s main domestic routes, and flies to other destinations in Asia................
